La BMW Sports Enduro: En route pour devenir la nouvelle référence en moto d'enduro. D'abord vint l'idée: L'ensemble idéal, avec une concentration au plus près de centre de gravité et un chassis conçu parfaitement adapté au plus grand nombre d'impératifs des sports tout-terrains. L'articulation du bras oscillant est sur le même axe que le pignon de transmission secondaire: Cela ne permet pas simplement d'éviter les variations de longueur de chaine lors des compressions et détentes, mais surtout d'avoir un bras oscillant plus long sans influer sur l'entraxe des roues. Le moteur est un monocylindre BMW 4 temps à quatre soupapes et carter sec. L'injection et la régulation par sonde lambda sont des caractéristique unique à ce jour dans cette catégorie de motos. La position très inclinée du moteur permet partiquement une admission en ligne droite depuis la boite à air de grand volume: des conditions idéales pour améliorer le rendement du moteur. L'inclinaison du moteur et le positionnement du réservoir d'essence sous la selle on également un impact positif sur le centre de gravité. The BMW Motorrad Sports Enduro: on the way to becoming the new endurance sports bike. First came the idea: the ideal package, with concentration near the overall centre of gravity and a chassis design which would be perfectly adaptable to the widely varying demands of off-road sports. The swing arm mount is on the same axle as the drive chain pinion: this not only makes a change of chain length unnecessary on compression and rebound, it also means it is possible to have a longer swing arm with a wheelbase of the same length. The engine is a BMW-designed 450 cc DOHC 4-stroke single cylinder with dry sump lubrication. Unique features in this class to date are the petrol injection and lambda regulation. The heavily tilted cylinder position enables virtually straight intake air ducting in the large-volume airbox: excellent conditions for optimum engine power tuning. The cylinder tilt and the placement of the tank under the seat have a positive effect on the centre of gravity, too.
